武家屋敷に泊まる

SYUNKOEN opened as a traditional Japanese restaurant about 50 years ago. The parents of our landlady bought an old SAMURAI residence when they came back to Japan from Manchurian. They renovated the old residence into the restaurant. The building has been standing here more than 180 years and kept traditional Japanese style.
We have a very beautiful Japanese garden. The garden was designed by “ENSYU KOBORI(小堀遠州)” who is known as a great Tea ceremony master. The name of our restaurant SYUNKOEN (春光園) means “the garden of spring light”. It was named after the beauty of the garden under the moon light in spring. The style of the garden looks like typical traditional Kyoto style, however a garden historian told us it has been influenced by Chinese style a lot. Certainly, the scenery of the garden looks like a Chinese landscape painting, isn’t it?
Also, one of our tea rooms was designed by ENSYU. The tea room is a very interesting piece of work as more than 10 different timbers were used to build the architectural details of the room. The view of the garden from this room is also wonderful.
We offer four different rooms to serve our foods in this old SAMURAI residence including the tea room and a traditional Japanese reception room, looking over the garden.

Our RYOKAN – Japanese traditional style hotel – was opened about 20 years ago.
Our landlady was build a Japanese style house next to the restaurant and opened as RYOKAN. We have
two Japanese style rooms and three western style rooms with bathrooms. Also we have two wooden
Japanese style bathrooms for guests use. These bathrooms are able to lock the door when you use them,
so you can enjoy your bath time on your own or just with your family and group.
